What’s the story with Patriots Rookie Gabe Jacas?

Yesterday, Mike Vrabel held a press conference before the start of mandatory minicamp. In this press conference, Vrabel mentioned that all players who were under contract would be in attendance. His wording here stemmed the question on Patriots Rookie EDGE Gabe Jacas, to which Vrabel told reporters Jacas underwent a procedure, is not under contract, and will not be present.

Though I don’t think it’s noteworthy at this point (June, ask me in August if we’re still here) It’s noteworthy to review some other situations around the league where rookies were not signed by the start of mandatory minicamp.

Starting with our own: Treveyon Henderson (Round 2, 2025) did not sign his rookie deal all the way until just before training camp on July 19, 2025. Clearly there was no need to be alarmed as Treveyon had a tremendous rookie year under the new Patriots regime. Treveyon remains with the team today under that same contract.

Another scenario that may worry Pats fans is Joey Bosa’s rookie contract dispute. Bosa didn’t sign his contract until a month after training camp had begun in 2016. Though there was no lingering surgery, Bosa’s camp couldn’t come to terms with the Chargers until Bosa received his fully guaranteed contract.

Obviously, you don’t want to see your 2nd round draft pick miss a day of OTAs, minicamp, or training camp whether that be because of injury or contracts. That said, I don’t foresee the Jacas situation carrying on much longer and certainly, at this point, don’t see it affecting his participation in training camp in July.
