Hey everybody! Happy Sunday.
Scott here, getting my Patriots thoughts out before the week of Mandatory minicamp. The camp was bumped up to this week and will take place between June 9-11. It should be open to the media, which will be nice. I have a few things I want to touch on, and thank you for checking out our new website. I appreciate all the feedback we've been getting and appreciate the writers we already have contributing! Here's some stuff i've been hearing involving the Patriots.
Stefon Diggs - So this is the elephant in the room. I think many fans feel this signing would put the wide receiver room over the top with talent and would vault the Patriots into a top tier offense this season (they might be anyway). From speaking with a few plugged in people, there seems to be a lot of smoke. Certainly not a done deal, but we've been hearing if the money is right, he should be back on the Patriots. I think what you have to sell Diggs is the reduced role and how he would fit into the offense. I checked in with a Patriots media member who claimed they didn't want Stefon Diggs back in March, but "things can change".
Kayshon Boutte - Kayshon Boutte is likely not long for this Patriots team. Fans have some conflicting emotion about this because of how good he was in certain games and his relationship with Drake Maye on the field. Boutte has been a hard worker for years, working his way back into the starting lineup and being a very reliable target with great hands. The issue here is he is redundant in this offense, and will not have much playing time behind AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Kayshon Boutte is currently on the trade block and will likely be dealt before the season begins. The Patriots have been shopping him since the draft for a day 3 pick, but have not been able to find a suitor. Good luck Kayshon, thanks for that sweet one handed grab against the Texans.
Christian Gonzalez - Gonzo wants to get paid. This season he would be playing for 4 million, which is not happening. I would not expect to see Christian Gonzalez attend the mandatory minicamp on June 9th without a new contract and honestly that makes sense. Considering Julian Hill was just injured and is now out for the year, Christian Gonzalez will likely be cautious and wait for his new deal before participating. Ian Rapoport reported that nothing is imminent, and maybe a deal gets done later in training camp. Lets see how long the holdout lasts.
Happy to get some more looks at AJ Brown this week in minicamp. guy is a stud.
have a great day!
