The Giannis Antetokounmpo situation continues to evolve and gain traction. Today a new report from Sam Amick from the athletic dropped. Sam is claiming that the Boston Celtics are a serious candidate for Giannis and are a direct threat to the Heat (who many see as the favorite). Sam also claimed that Giannis would accept a contract extension witht he Celtics for 4 years and 275 million if traded there. This one is huge, as Giannis ultimately controls where he ends up, by accepting or rejecting a future contract extension. The third main piece from the article was that Jaylen Brown would be invovled in the deal and would most likely be part of a three team trade.
The Bucks want to deal Giannis at this point, but they don't have interest in accepting Jaylen Brown as trade compensation. Reportedly they would need a third team invovled and would prefer to get younger and accept a plethora of draft picks.
At this point this Boston Celtics have not come out and revealed their hand, but reports are beginning to fly around linking them to Giannis and claiming they would be more than willing to part with Jaylen Brown. Most of these recent reports have likely come from outside of the organization, as they have been careful as to not upset Jaylen Brown. Unfortunately for Brown, it's becoming inevitable that he will be now linked to Giannis in trade rumors over the next couple weeks as this situation resolves.
My opinion?
I think the Celtics have a great chance to trade for Giannis as they can offer the best package to the Bucks via a 3 team deal. another franchise like Atlanta or Portland would be happy to receive Jaylen Brown and facilitate a deal. We shall see.
